UK director Jenny Ash (“America: The Story of Us”) is developing a biopic of reggae legend Bob Marley for Greenacre Films says Deadline.
The story will concentrate on the year Marley spent living in London in 1977 after he fled from Jamaica in the wake of an assassination attempt.
During that year he started an affair with just crowned Miss World Cindy Breakspeare, performed his legendary Rainbow Theatre gig, hung out with the Sex Pistols, and sustained a soccer injury which eventually triggered full-blown cancer.
The focus of the story will be on the love triangle between Marley, his wife Rita and Breakspeare. One big catch however is that the filmmakers don’t have rights to the songs yet which Rita Marley controls.
