“Lethal Weapon,” “MacGyver,” “Frequency,” and “The Exorcist” are about to be joined by yet another TV reboot – “Magnum P.I.”.
ABC is teaming with “Leverage” creator John Rogers and producer Eva Longoria for a TV series that will focus on the daughter of the iconic character played by Tom Selleck in the original 1980s series.
Described as an action-packed drama in the same style of the original, the action follows Lily ‘Tommy’ Magnum who returns to Hawaii to take up the mantle of her father’s PI firm.
She and her friends mix tropical beaches with the seedy underbelly of international crime and modern espionage. There will also be an overall story arc involving the truth behind a blown spy operation that ended her career in Navy Intelligence.
The character was seen in four episodes of the original series where she had been raised by her mother and her second husband. Following their death, Lily was reunited with her birth father.
The project has scored a script commitment with a hefty penalty. Rogers will pen the script and executive produce alongside Jennifer Court.
