The third film in “The Expendables” franchise was a bit of a bust, no thanks to a leaked copy going online early. Despite the franchise seemingly floundering though, there’s been rumors of a fourth outing with this bunch of aging acting veterans for some time now.
Now, THR reports that German distributor Splendid Film has picked up distribution rights to the film across all of German-speaking Europe with a release date slated for sometime in 2018. The report also indicates that this will be the final sequel for this action franchise.
Splendid Film previously distributed the first three films which earned roughly $30 million combined at the German box office. It hasn’t been confirmed if Lionsgate will distribute the franchise closer within the United States.
Legendary boxer Manny Pacquiao was rumored to be joining the cast at one point, a rumor Sylvester Stallone shot down. No word on when production on the film might get underway.
