A “Deadpool” Sequel Already Greenlit

20th Century Fox’s “Deadpool” is headed for a big opening weekend this week with the film currently tracking to open in the $65-70 million range over the four-day holiday.

Whilst the earliest reviews started out stellar, the film has slipped a bit with critics. Even so it’s still looking good with an 80% (6.8/10) on Rotten Tomatoes and a more mixed 63/100 on Metacritic.

For a film that was fairly cost-efficient to make, it comes as no surprise that the studio is already working on a sequel with the film’s scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick said to be penning the script for a follow-up which has already been greenlit.

One surprise, the film’s director Tim Miller has not signed on to helm the sequel so far, but Fox is intent on keeping the creative team together so it’s likely he will return.

Also today comes word from ComicBook.com claims to have seen the second credits stinger that will air with the film, the one that wasn’t shown to critics in the past two weeks, and says it essentially confirms that Nathan ‘Cable’ Summers will be a part of the project.
