A “Backdraft” Sequel Is In The Works?

Universal Pictures has reportedly tapped Spanish director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego (“Apollo 18,” “Open Grave”) to helm an in the works sequel to Ron Howard’s 1991 firefighting action-drama “Backdraft” reports Moviehole.

The story will reportedly focus on the son of Kurt Russell’s character, who still has a grudge against his uncle’s actions in the first film. Now an investigator with the Chicago F.D., he has to confront arms dealers who use deadly fires as a distraction

The site says filming on “Backdraft II” could begin as early as next month in Romania and Toronto and could see William Baldwin reprising his co-lead role of said uncle Brian McCaffrey.
