30 Rock, “Mad Men” Top Emmy Noms

“30 Rock” and “Mad Men” once again led the nominations for this year’s annual Emmy awards with twenty-two and sixteen nominations respectively across all categories. The 22 nominations for ‘Rock’ broke the record for the most nominations ever by a comedy.

Fox hit “Family Guy” has became the first animated series in nearly five decades to get a Best Comedy Series nomination (the previous occasion was “The Flintstones in 1961). Also up for that award are HBO’s “Flight of the Conchords” and “Entourage”, NBC’s “30 Rock” and “The Office”, CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother” and Showtime’s “Weeds”.

In the Best Drama Series, ‘Men’ takes on AMC’s “Breaking Bad”, HBO’s “Big Love,” FX’s “Damages,” Showtime’s “Dexter”, ABC’s “Lost” and Fox’s “House.”

Notable omissions this year include FX’s “The Shield” and “Rescue Me,” HBO’s “True Blood,” CBS’ “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory,” NBC’s “ER” and Syfy’s “Battlestar Galactica”.

HBO’s “Grey Gardens” starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange scored seventeen nominations, tying the record with the two mid-70’s “Eleanor and Franklin” TV movies as the most nominations for made-for-TV movies.

The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards will be held September 20th at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The full list of nominees can be found here.
