Fox may be set to continue the “24” franchise in an unexpected way.
According to TV Line, executive producer Howard Gordon has revealed that an upcoming spin-off series is in the works which will revolve around “a new twenty something male terrorist hunter.”
Does that mean Kiefer Sutherland is out? On the contrary, Gordon has apparently indicated that Sutherland’s Jack Bauer character would weave in and out of the new series as a guest star. Sutherland has previously expressed that he’s no interest in returning to a full time TV schedule, but the option of guest starring every now and then is no doubt enticing.
The series would also see the new male antihero working alongside an older, more seasoned female agent. Said agent will NOT be Yvonne Strahovski’s Kate Morgan from last year’s “Live Another Day” revival, although the character also may appear.
Though launching as a limited series, if audiences approve then this “could easily become a long-term property for Fox” says the outlet. Manny Coto and Evan Katz are expected back as writers and executive producers on the project which will maintain the show’s real-time concept.
