2015 VES & DGA Nominees Revealed

The Directors Guild of America has announced this year’s nomination’s for the Director’s Guild Awards. The winners, which are based on a vote by 15,000 DGA members, will be announced February.

Competing for the best directing in a feature film honor this year are Wes Anderson for “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” Clint Eastwood for “America Sniper,” Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for “Birdman,” Richard Linklater for “Boyhood” and Morten Tyldum for “The Imitation Game”.

That isn’t the only award nominations announced today as the Visual Effects Society has announced the nominees for the 13th Annual VES Awards. This group splits its live-action feature and TV series awards into two, one for effects-driven projects and one for projects where effects are more in the background.

For the FX-driven films, the nominees are: “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Interstellar,” “Maleficent,” “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past”. For films with FX in a supporting capacity, the nominees are: “Birdman,” “Divergent,” “The Grand Budapest hotel,” “The Imitation Game” and “Unbroken”.

For the FX-driven series, the nominees are: “Constantine,” “Game of Thrones,” “Hemlock Grove,” “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” and “The Flash”. For series with FX in a supporting capacity, the nominees are: “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” “Black Sails,” “Crossbones,” “Penny Dreadful” and “Ripper Street”.

Other nominations include “Big Hero 6,” “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” “Rio 2,” “The Box-Officextrolls” and “The LEGO Movie” for best animated feature; “Alien Isolation,” “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare,” “Infamous: Second Son” and “Sunset Overdrive” for best video game visuals.
