    Storyline
Tom Cruise heads an international cast as Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, the aristocratic German officer who led the heroic attempt to bring down the Nazi regime and end the war by planting a bomb in Hitler's bunker. The "July 20 Plot" on Hitler's life is one of the most heroic but least known episodes of World War Two. Severely wounded in combat, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg returns from Africa to join the German Resistance and help create Operation Valkyrie, the complex plan that will allow a shadow government to replace Hitler's once he is dead. But fate and circumstance conspire to thrust Stauffenberg from one of many in the plot to a double-edged central role. Not only must he lead the coup and seize control of his nation's government... He must kill Hitler himself.

    Trivia
    - Tobias Moretti was in talks for playing Adolf Hitler but had to decline due to schedule conflicts.

    - The initially crew was not allowed to film on Bendlerblock due to "the dignity of this place". Eventually, the Ministry of Defence would allow filming as long as the dignity of the place was not tarnished. On the evening of the takes, the entire crew observed a moment of silence in commemorance of Stauffenberg.

    - Initial rumors that the project was banned from filming in Germany due to Tom Cruise's religious belief turned out not to be true.

    - Some scenes had to be re-shot when the original film was destroyed after being treated with the wrong chemical during development.

    - Production has also involved World War II planes with swastikas painted on the sides, practicing in the airspace above Brandenburg.

    - A replica set of Hitler's Eastern front headquarters Wolf's Lair was constructed 60 kilometers south of Berlin, though the headquarters' actual location was in modern-day Poland

    - Nazi symbols, the display of which is usually illegal in Germany, were also used at several locations, and while the filmmakers gave forewarnings to local residents, a passerby witnessing the use of swastikas during filming in Berlin filed an official complaint with the city.

    - In October 2007, Kenneth Branagh said that the German official who initially incited the complaints about Cruise and the filming contacted the production one week into shooting to apologize, after reading the script and realizing he had misinterpreted the film's plot.

    - Eleven film extras playing Wehrmacht soldiers were injured on set in Berlin when they fell out of a moving lorry. One of the actors received a serious back injury while others had bruises, cuts and head injuries. An insurance company investigation concluded that the side panel had been closed improperly by one of the extras, resulting in it opening while the truck was in motion.
