- Costumes design is by Sandy Powell who also worked on Shakespeare in Love, and filming locations include Penshurst Place, Knole Park and Dover Castle in Kent, and Bude in Cornwall.

- Three weeks of reshoots took place from August 30th 2007 to September 22nd 2007 at at Ely Cathedral and around Kent.

- There was some criticism from sections of the British press for the decision to cast three foreigners in the main roles (Portman & Johansson are American, Bana is Australian).
