2007 Venice Film Festival Winners

Ang Lee’s sexual espionage thriller “Lust, Caution” won the 64th Venice Film Festival’s Golden Lion For Best Picture over the weekend. The film also scored a win for best cinematography for Rodrigo Prieto’s work.

Brian De Palma scored the Silver Lion For Best Director for “Redacted” which features a brutal reconstruction of the real-life rape and murder of a 14-year-old Iraqi girl by U.S. soldiers.

Todd Haynes’ Bob Dylan biopic “I’m Not There” won a Special Jury Prize, whilst Cate Blanchett’s performance scored her the Volpi Cup For Best Actress. Brad Pitt won the Volpi Cup For Best Actor for “The Assassination of Jesse James.”

Tunisian-born director Abdellatif Kechiche’s immigration drama “The Secret of the Grain” took the other Special Jury Prize. Paul Laverty took the Best Screenplay award for Ken Loach’s “It’s A Free World.”
