- 11th November 2002 -
Countingdown has just done an interview with Director Bryan Singer and was asked about why Nightcrawler was chosen for this flick: "Well, because he's a very interesting character. Once again, like Rogue in the first picture, there's a kind of dichotomy to his character that interests me; he's a religious character who has the physical proportions of a demon. He has a unique power that we haven’t seen before; he teleports, which is a bit different from what all the other characters do and that's always important. One finds when one explores the universe that there are a lot of characters that are similar very often. This character shoots powerful lighting bolts from their eyes, another one from the hands, another one with a powerful beam, another one with powerful energy or powerful energy blasts and it's always nice to have characters that are different and that also exemplify the mutant predicament, much like Rogue did in the first film. The Nightcrawler character embodies that choice, and also serves the story, and is also a fan favorite". Just click the link to check out the full-length interview. Thanks to 'David'.

- 25th October 2002 -
Jam Movies has some details on the "X-Men" sequel including one confirmation courtesy of Patrick Stewart - the Sentinels are indeed in this flick it seems: "The peril is a good deal higher in this movie. (Stryker) is a really really bad guy. He makes Magneto look like one of us. You'll see the four cyborgs, three characters from the comic book, and another character who only has a number, who has an impact on Xavier's story because he's an ex-pupil". Stewart also started talking about the current scene they were shooting and confirmed one other story element: "I'm either still in Stryker's world or we might be moving into what is known as Dark Cerebro". Thanks to 'FanHalen'.

'April 27' is back again with a update from the Vancouver set of the "X-Men" sequel:

"Production is going on schedule (around the half-way point). Fox has asked to see some rough footage from the shooting and from what I've heard they're very happy w/ what has been done so far. For the fans of the X-Men's training room aka the Danger Room...at the moment it will be left out of the shooting schedule, although there is a slight chance it will get back since Fox is giving the production budget a 'few more bucks' plus the fact that the set has been worked on partially. The director, Bryan Singer may be adding a different scene though that was originally cut out...well just have to wait and see.

On to Nightcrawler. Alan Cumming has been shooting his scenes. He and his stunt double have been working with a lot of wires/bungee aides. The character will be very acrobatic. They're using a slightly different version costume/makeup wise on the character, but it seems to be only an improvment. Very similar to comic, but with some few changes.

Other character changes I want to mention...Storm gets a new hair style. It looks more natural on Halle Berry. Much shorter than in the last film and looks pretty cool in costume. The Fans/Audience should warm up to the Storm character when they watch the sequel. They'll get to know what she's all about and what her role in the X-Men is. Marsden's Cyclops will have slight, notable change. Mystique is pretty much the same, but with obvious improvments.

Just a few more things: The character of Senator Kelly has been.....umm....nevermind. Three main character in the sequel are......ummmm....nevermind. Jean & Scott get into some............ummmm..........I'll keep quiet on that"

All casting including major roles and cameos are complete on the "X-Men" sequel, and 'April 27' drops by to discuss the look of the big newcomer: "The crew has finalized the look for Nightcrawler. Actor, Alan Cumming is on set as we speak trying out the new duds and make up. He still has not filmed any scenes though, and will not start filming for some weeks from now. All I can tell you about his characters look is that he DOES have only three fingers like in the comics. Through the use of prosthectics it will be done. I'm not too clear on if his feet are like in the comics. What can I say about the fur, tail, eyes? I have no idea how they did it. He really looks creepy and it looks very realistic. Comic fans will be happy".

- 26th July 2002 -
The first shot of the crew on-set (with singer & Jackman) is now up at the official site, meanwhile photos showing off the filming report mentioned yesterday are now up at ScottRose.Com.

- 25th July 2002 -
'Sentinel R1' has this spectacular report from the set of the superhero sequel:

"Xmen2 is filming its big action sequence all this week in Victoria, BC Canada. The location is called Hatley Castle and is the former location of the University for the Canadian Navy and Army. Now it is a public university called Royal Roads. All major cast members from Xmen were in Victoria for interior shots inside the castle about a month ago. Now they are back to do the outside work.

The action sequence calls for 6 helicopters to invade the School for the Gifted Children, run by Patrick Stewart's character. Only 2 actual helicopters are being used for shooting, but with digital post prod. it will be made to look like six. Over 40 extras are going to be shot running up the grounds toward the castle for the big finish. Close ups will be done in studio, in Vancouver.

Army helicopters would fly in from just over the lagoon, with the film 'chaser' copter right behind them. The lower parking lot, nearest to the rowing facility, was empty. The second paved parking lot was where all the movie trailers were parked and where the helicopters landed for refuelling. They did about 20 passes from 8:30 to about 9:45. All three copters came very, very close to the castle. They had the castle lit with search lights aimed at the water. They also had five light towers flooding the castle in light for the evening sequence.

There is a scaffold made up that sits on the paved parking lot. I thought it was for one of the helicopters but all 3 landed on the tarmac. Then I noticed that the scaffold was very apparent in every shot. I am guessing this is going to be a digital "landmark" for something they will add later on via CG. The invasion seequence involved about 40 infantry men who were preping down at the trailers during all the fly bys"

- 24th July 2002 -
Coming Attractions indicates young sci-fi TV stars Kea Wong will be playing Jubilee and Shauna Kain will be playing Siryn.

- 12th July 2002 -
Despite the press release yesterday indicating otherwise, Superhero Hype has confirmed Alan Cumming won't start work on "X2" till August and is expected to be shooting a lot of scenes. They also report that the characters of Sabretooth and Toad have been written out.

- 11th July 2002 -
'April 27' updates us on the status of the film sequel and the big question - character airtime: "The characters of Kitty Pryde, Pyro, Bobby (Iceman) will have a much bigger role in the sequel, and we'll get to see them using their powers (in battle!). Rogue's role is smaller than in the last film. Current ideas are that she will mostly be seen w/ the other 'Junior' X-Men. They DO get their own versions of uniforms, although they're not as 'professional' looking as the advance X-Men. Telling by the shooting dates and story boards Halle Berry will get much more screen time as Ororo Munro, than in the previous film. She will also take flight a couple times. We do not start shooting the 'Nightcrawler' scenes until early August. Nightcrawler will not have an X-Men uniform for most of the film. There are cameos set for the characters of: Angel, Gambit, Colossus, and possibly Jubilee but she has yet to be cast. Out of all four cameos, Colossus will have the most screen time. One last thing...The X-Men Special Edition DVD is due out earlier than we thought it would be. FOX wants it out in time for the Holiday Season of this year. Expect some previews of X2, including the logo trailer, and behind the scenes footage". Meanwhile shots from the set are up at GT, CineSite recently revealed they will do over 300 FX shots for the film, and finally Entertainment Wire indicates Alan Cumming has finished shooting his scenes as Nightcrawler on the project. Thanks to 'Loki', X-Fan & 'Jon Movie Man'.

The X-Men also recruit 2 new team members, Gambit and Nightcrawler". Meanwhile Canada.Com reports that Brian Cox ("The Bourne Identity", "The Long Kiss Goodnight"), the first man to play Hannibal Lecter is in talks for the role of the film's main villain 'Stryker', whilst the official site has been slightly updated. Thanks to 'Jon MM', 'FamousMisFit138' & Jackman's L.

Yesterday, World Wrestling Entertainment and MTV aired a 'Tough Enough 2' reunion show that was taped last week, and on it TE2 contestant Hawk (the crazy one from season two apparently) reported that he had been asked to audition for the part of Colossus in X2. He did not yet know if he had the part which first appears as a cameo in which he helps protect kids from Stryker's forces breaking into the X-Mansion. Thanks to 'Alex', 'Anthony', 'David', 'Dracula', 'Glenn', 'cheungcheung', 'Wildstar', 'Splatagast' & 'The Joker'.

- 10th June 2002 -
Katie Stuart has landed the role of Kitty Pryde, a role Sumela Kay played in the original.

- 6th June 2002 -
'Mr Music' has sent in news on the upcoming sequel - nothing really new here, rather just confirming rumours that have been printed over the past few weeks:

"I'm currently working with the production team for X-Men 2, which will start primary photography on Wednesday of next week in Vancouver, with main photography beginning next Monday.

Halle Berry, James Marsden, and Patrick Stewart will be film starting on Wednesday. During the first few weeks of shooting, we will be at Hatley Castle in Victoria shooting some exterior, interior and classroom scenes with many "mutant kids". This is a different mansion from the one seen in the first film.

Something interesting...Halle Berry, James Marsden, and Patrick Stewart, will be filming some extra scenes which will be mixed into the first film, which will be released as a 'Special Edition' DVD sometime around Spring/Summer of next year.

We will wrap up shooting in around late December, early January, with a Summer 2003 release. Most likely May 2nd, although there's a chance of the release date being pushed back. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes."

The Times-Colonist reports that the Royal Roads University has been booked for a month of shooting in June for exteriors to be used for the Mutant School.

- 30th May 2002 -
Looks like the reports of Ethan Embry joining the cast were premature. Variety reports that Alan Cumming has signed to play the shadowy blue-tinted teleporting mutant Nightcrawler when shooting begins in Vancouver on June 17th. The news of Aaron Stanford as Pyro is correct however, whilst Ian McKellan said in a recent interview about what we can expect: "To ensure my compliance with this understandable constraint (the lengthy legal disclaimer), each page of my script is over-printed with my name. Not wishing to spoil anyone's enjoyment of the sequel, let alone risking incarceration in a Fox-ey plastic cell, I intend to obey my orders, I'm afraid". Thanks to 'Brian'.

- 27th May 2002 -
The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Ethan Embry has scored the role of 'Nightcrawler', the teleporting blue-skinned mutant in the upcoming "X-Men" sequel. 'Nightcrawler' and 'Pyro' are the only new major mutant characters in the next chapter (there's other cameos though), 'Pyro' was also recently cast with newcomer Aaron Stanford ("Tadpole") scoring the part. Embry's most well known role so far was as the lead in teen comedy "Can't Hardly Wait", but has built a surprisingly large career with roles in the likes of "White Squall", "That Thing You Do", "Disturbing Behavior" and the TV series "Freakylinks". Shooting is scheduled to begin soon in Vancouver with script revisions currently underway. Thanks to 'MangMatt' & Jackman's Landing.

- 28th December 2001 -
FOX just e-mailled out an interesting pre-production pic which you can get a sneak peek at

- 13th December 2001 -
In an official release from FOX, the studio has confirmed it will be releasing the "X-Men" sequel under the title "X²" on May 2nd 2003 in the US. Principal photography is also set to start May 2002 with all the major cast and most of the major crew back. No word on which new characters will be introduced.

- 10th December 2001 -
Halle Berry confirmed on MTV "Total Request Live" that her character 'Storm' would definitely be getting a haircut. Meantime the IMDb is listing upcoming actor Sam Khaleghi ("Not Another Teen Movie") as Gambit, a rumour proven false as Assistant Director Lee Cleary told CountingDown that no 'Gambit' character appears in the film, though as for Nightcrawler he won't confirm or deny. Thanks to 'David' & 'Anthony'.

- 6th December 2001 -
Manuel Verge, currently at work on "The Tuxedo", confirmed to Countingdown that the X-sequel begins shooting in May in Toronto with some shooting to happen in Vancouver. The story as far as he knows has Professor X and Magneto teaming to fight off a new evil whilst two new characters will be introduced.

- 13th November 2001 -
FOX Movies has a brief teaser item up on their site.

- 6th November 2001 -
David Hayter talked to Comics Continuum about the current status of the sequel - "Actually, we are closing in on the final draft. I had a great meeting last week with the studio (20th Century Fox), Bryan and Marvel, and everybody seems pretty happy. I can't say much about it story-wise, but it's going to be really cool". Hayter confirms he and Singer are working on a final draft at the moment and is telling people "that it's the second part of a much bigger, three-part movie". Thanks to 'Omega Red'.

- 29th October 2001 - Picard himself just talked with UK's Impact magazine and confirmed a few rumours: "There's no start-date for X-Men 2 yet. That was due to start in January or February and I guess it's fortunate that it's no, given that Star Trek X got pushed back too. What I'm hearing now is July/August of 2002. It's a little frustrating because I was looking forward to doing those films back to back, where I would have a solid six month block when I was working and not available for other things. I'm actively trying to balance my theatre work with my other projects". Thanks to 'Tequila Mockingbird'.

- 14th October 2001 -
One always reliable source has confirmed that contrary to popular belief, the only new character in the current script notes right now is Nightcrawler.

- 9th October 2001 -
'Tequila Mockingbird' claims to have more on the scheduling conflict news in regards to the "X-Men" sequel: "I'm hearing lots of talk of the X-Men 2 movie starting production in early (Jan/Feb) 2002 (hence the stories of Halle Berry's scheduling conflict and its resolution). After speaking at length with a prominent cast-member in the last week, I can confirm that there ISN'T a start date scheduled at present. In fact, the actor told me that they believe it will be July or August of next year before filming begins. This is actually fortuitous as lead actor Patrick Stewart apparently doesn't even begin filming Star Trek X until the last week of November 2001"

- 8th October 2001 -
Zap2It reports that with FOX scheduling a January start-of-shooting date on the "X-Men" sequel, scheduling conflicts for its stars have popped up. Halle Berry was set to star with Ben Affleck in the hitman flick "Gigli" at the end of the year before reprising the role of 'Storm' in February/March. This moving up means Berry has had to drop out of "Gigli" and Director Martin Brest indicates a replacement has yet to be cast for "Gigli". Another potential conflict is Patrick Stewart - with Paramount moving ahead on "Star Trek: Nemesis" which starts shooting in a few weeks, his commitments to it and playing Professor Xavier in "X-Men 2" makes things difficult and will probably require some re-scheduling. Thanks to 'Nic'

- 6th September 2001 -
There's now concerted efforts online to try and get actor Christian Kane (Linsey on "Angel") for the role of Gambit

- 20th August 2001 -
Several sources, including Gary Daniels himself, have confirmed his rumoured involvement in the "X-Men" sequel is not true

- 30th May 2001 -
Could Gambit actually make it into the movie? Its a possibility according to Guerilla Film

- 11th May 2001 -
The Herald Sun reports that "X-Men 2 & 3" will be shot back to back. The same article mentions LOTS of wild rumours about sequels - so many "out there" ones I'd be highly suspicious of it.

- 7th May 2001 -
There's a spy report over at Countingdown indicating the Sentinels are in the film after all, whilst Beast will play an escapee of some sort who knows Xavier.

- 13th April 2001 -
The BBC reports that Fox and Marvel are both suing each other over Marvel's plans to do a TV series version of "Mutant X" scheduled to begin shooting June 4th. Fox believes it will cheapen their "X-Men" movie franchise and says "Although we value our good relationship with Marvel and hope this can be resolved, we must take all appropriate action to protect our very valuable X-Men rights". Marvel hit back saying "Fox has carefully waited until the last-minute to strike, a time when it would be the most difficult in all ways to cease production of the series". This also puts the current fate of the "X-Men" movie sequel in questionable territory right now. Thanks to 'Gary' & 'ChimChim'

- 6th April 2001 -
Entertainment Rewired reports that the recent article in The Toronto Sun about the film shifting locations is wrong.

- 5th April 2001 -
Coming Attractions: X-Men 2 reports that the irst film's main scribe David Hayter denied The Sun Times article from last month, a script is not ready but rather a treatment that "involves the appearance of the menacing "Legacy Virus", a man-made disease that is only infectious to mutants, eventually resulting in their deaths. The X-Men must face the creator of the Virus as well as battle the spread of the disease as it vectors through the public".

- 4th April 2001 -
The Toronto Sun reports that the sequel is slated to move ahead into production this Fall for release next July, despite indications from those involved that basically that is just not going to be possible. Nevertheless the article does focus on the fact the film looks like it will not be shot in Toronto again, with Vancouver currently in the lead as the replacement candidate whilst Sydney and Montreal are also on the list (Bryan Singer is currently in Sydney shooting 7UP commercials so an inspection may be in order). Sounds reasonable enough though the article also indicates Singer has confirmed that Gambit, Beast and Jubilee will all appear despite the fact it was indicated earlier only Beast seems to be on the candidates list. Thanks to 'Marty'

- 21st March 2001 -
Hugh Jackman told The Sun Times the film's script is due in this week whilst filming is slated to start in January

- 16th March 2001 -
Guerilla Film report that while Beast is a lock, Gambit will NOT appear in the new movie it seems according to their FOX source. Why not? "No one seems to like the idea. It's been thrown around, as have Nightcrawler, Colossus and Angel. Too similar to Wolverine, and there's already the tough guy thing going on between Wolverine and Cyclops, so why add a third?". The source also indicates there's next to no activity on the project right now. What about rumours a treatment has been finished? "I think so, but nothing's officially been turned in". The other big question, the villain: "The main villain will be Magneto, but the Sentinels will play a major part if they follow through on what they've been talking about". For the full article (incl. mention of a Wolverine spin-off), click here. Thanks to 'Rav'.

- 20th February 2001 -
With "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" now sunk, Bryan Singer is turning his attention towards a new project - the "X-Men" sequel. Speaking to Empire Online last night, he confirmed: "I am doing the sequel to X-men, I think its going to be called something like X-men 2. The original cast will join us again, along with some new characters. Other than that I can’t really tell you anything". Filming is scheduled to begin at the end of the year with the aim of a Christmas 2002 release, Singer is now working with scribe David Hayter on the film script. Thanks to 'Gustavo' & 'Overtkill'

- 7th February 2001 -
In an article over at Comics Continuum, the aforementiond Kevin Feige gives even further notice on "X-Men 2" saying: "We hope to have the script done before the strike -- or the possible (actors) strike -- then we'll start prepping it and shoot it before the end of the year...We haven't decided (which new members) yet. Everybody has their wish list, and then we'll put them on the reality list and then put them in the script". Thanks to 'Erwin' and Jam Movies

- 6th February 2001 -
James Marsden had a 'soundbite' interview with The Big Breakfast and was asked about the X-Men sequel. His response: "We might start later this year, we might start later next year... We just don't know yet".

- 29th December 2000 -
As expected the questionable rumour yesterday of Rock's casting has now been confirmed to be false - not only, that but the Portman/Kilmer casting rumours are also not true

- 28th December 2000 -
Movieheadlines.Net reports a rumour that Bryan Singer & Stan Lee appeared at a comics convention in Beverly Hills where they confirmed Beast, Gambit and Jubilee will be the major new mutants in the sequel and in fact the one and only 'The Rock' has signed on to play 'Beast'. Lee also apparently wants Natalie Portman and Val Kilmer for the other two roles. Any truth? This rumour broke on the site at Christmas yet there's still not a peep from the trades so I'd be highly suspicious. Meantime 'Rimsey' has more on that hairy Aussie named Jackman: "Hugh was interviewed on the Today show and he was saying that he is definately signed for at least two more X-Men Movies. However if they are as successful as the first one that could blow out to a seven movie deal (apparently focusing on the 'main-mutants')". Thanks to 'Kyle' & NataliePortman.Com

- 22nd November 2000 -
'Kyle' got to talk with Bryan Singer at the Toronto launch of the "X-Men" DVD and the quite revealing chat clears up a lot of speculation floating around:

- Yes Bryan Singer is in talks to helm the sequel... no, it is not finalized.

- The movie will not happen before the posible actor's strike...

- Yes he's working on a story with his production partner, he wouldn't elaborate on the story - he did say just "more of the same".

- There have been rumors about another X-disc with "new" scenes - NOT going to happen.

- Singer's relationship with Marvel is very good - he was just visiting a few of his friends at Marvel HQ in New york in the last couple of weeks.

- He also said he would love to shoot the sequel in Toronto again.

- He told me that he still reads the comics today - to keep up to date.

- He's now working on "Confesions of a Dangerous Mind" and did say that he hoped Mike Myers would be in it - I'm not sure that info's new though.

- The whole thing started with 4 people dressed up in costumes from the movie repelling down the outside of the castle - to unveil a banner for the video release. Singer was outside as well - he looked amused - people driving by looked confused.

- Davidson also added a little Star Wars news as well - there are NO, plans for Star Wars DVD's at this point (he would know - he would be in charge of them at 20th Century Fox) - he added that it's up to Lucasfilm, and that Fox is always second to know - but the standard line from Lucasfilm right now is - "George is really involved in Ep. 2 right now - he's not thinking of anything else"

- 17th July 2000 -
On Monday I said don't be surprised if the suits start talking "X-Men" sequel this week...well they began even earlier than I expected. Executive Producer Tom DeSanto talked with The New York Post and confirmed that while all the cast is signed on for a sequel, he and Director Bryan Singer have not yet committed - "Hopefully Fox and Bryan and myself will work together again...We planted the seeds for the next two [sequels] in this movie, and we'd love to do another". The sentiment was confirmed over at CNN which just did an interview with some of the cast soon after the box-office take was announced, Patrick Stewart confirming they'll be back at least once. As for what the storylines will be? That's the hottest topic in geekdom right now. The first rumour off the bat appeared over at Moron Free Film claiming the storyline had 'The Sentinels' going on a worldwide hunt for mutants which would allow for the introduction of new characters like Gambit, Beast, Nightcrawler, etc. along with setting up the 'Dark Phoenix' saga.
