Plot: A US remake of Alejandro Amenbar's "Open Your Eyes". A rich womanizer (Cruise) falls in love with his best friend's (Lee) girlfriend. The next day, he is in a car with a previous -- and fiercely jealous -- conquest, who commits suicide by driving the car into a tree. The bachelor survives the crash, but with his face hideously disfigured. Soon, however, his luck seems to change completely: the friend's girl declares her love for him and the doctors are suddenly able to rebuild his face. However, when strange and horrible things begin to happen, he starts to realize that his life has taken on a turn beyond his control.

NEWS & NOTES:
3rd December 2001 - The two main stars and the writer of this Spanish film remake talk about the wierdness of of this tale and their lives:

Interview: Tom Cruise - "Vanilla Sky"
Interview: Cameron Crowe - "Vanilla Sky"
Interview: Cameron Diaz - "Vanilla Sky"

22nd October 2001 - Reshoots are underway on the Cameron Crowe/Tom Cruise flick after a recent test screening - no its not what you think. According to The New York Post, Crowe is doing two days of 'expensive' additional shooting - the announcement of which took place after a recent test screening thus naturally the assumption was audiences didn't like something and it was changed as a result. However Pat Kingsley indicates this filming was always on the table to do: "They want to clarify something. They're doing two days of additional shooting, and it was always their intention to do that". Thanks to 'Chaz'.

27th September 2001 - A teaser official site is now up with some rather odd but good looking flash.

10th August 2001 - There's some great pics from the set of the Cameron Crowe flick up at Aint it Cool

7th May 2001 - Unconfirmed Rumors from a usually accurate source: "Vanilla Sky" reshoots: Tom Cruise returns to refilm under the Brooklyn Bridge, on the Brooklyn side near the water. Penelope Cruz will film on the pathway known as "Literary Walk" in Central Park. Exact dates for both shots is unknown, may be during week of May 7th.

30th April 2001 - Reshoots are underway at Chase Manhattan Plaza and the Verizon Bldg near Wall Street and IBM on Madison Ave. Tom Cruise is not being utilised in this bit of filming.

16th March 2001 - There's tension in the Spielberg camp right now. Showbiz Ireland reports that Steven Spielberg and Cameron Crowe are clashing over the use of a Hollywood hot property - Tom Cruise. Cruise is currently still shooting Crowe's "Vanilla Sky" which is running into overtime and the delays are likely to mean Cruise won't be finished in time to join Spielberg on "Minority Report" when it begins filming next Thursday. The film was supposed to actually start production last week but the delays on 'Vanilla Sky', attributed to "the problems of protecting Cruise and his co-star Penelope Cruz from intense media interest following his separation from Nicole Kidman", forced a fortnight delay to the start of shooting with 'Minority' co-star Colin Farrell currently waiting in LA for the call to get to work. Thanks to 'Ray'.

2nd March 2001 - Allocine reports that Cameron Crowe and Steven Spielberg will cameo in the other's respective films (ie. Crowe in "Minority Report", Spielberg in "Vanilla Sky").

21st November 2000 - Report from 'Detective Movie Buff': "Sunday mornings shoot consisted of a car stunt whereby a light color blue Buick Skylark, possiblya 1970 model, drives across the Riverside Drive overpass onto a wood ramp and crashes through a fake railing straight down onto to West 96th Street below. They did this shot three times with three identical cars that were somehow propelled containing dummys resembling both Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, both of whom later did driving shots with a camera truck pulling another Skylark up and down Riverside Drive to around W. 145th Street and back south again. Early Sunday morning Cruise was gracious enough to pose with a little girl for a couple of poloroid photos which he then signed as well. Saturday, I'm told, they shot exteriors in Brooklyn under the Brooklyn Bridge facing Manhattan. Mon, Tue, Wed they're doing cars shots possibly on Morningside Drive around Columbia University. Heard unconfirmed that Cruise is staying at the Carlyle Hotel on the upper east side".

14th November 2000 - 'Detective Movie Buff' has an extensive report on the new Tom Cruise/Cameron Crowe flick currently shooting in New York City - sounds like Cruise is being nice to the crowds, but his bodyguards might not be:

"Tom Cruise's "Vanilla Sky" started their Times Square shoot yesterday, Sunday, at about 8:30 am with Cruise running up Broadway from West 42nd Streeet north to W.43rd. Street. Then after several takes, he ran south from 44th to 43rd Street and jumped onto a wood platform below where the ball drops on New Year's Eve and proceeded in a preacher like stance to look upward turning in circles with his hands reaching the sky while yelling something while the crew played a strange backround theme. Tom was then gracious enough to shake hands with the huge crowd on the sidewalk creating quite a wild mob scene.

Then they broke for lunch and moved uptown to Amsterdam Ave at W. 109th Street just below the landmark Cathedral of St. John the Devine for a stunt shot which consisted of Tom Cruise's stunt double driving a dark green Mustang fastback model, late 1960's to early 1970's, northbound on Amstrerdam. Just as it approached W. 109th Street intersection, it crossed from the right lane into the center lane in front of an aprroaching dump truck that stopped without hitting the car. This might be the part of the story where Cruise is disfigured in an auto accident.

Nearby on a tow truck I noticed an exotic foreign sports car, either an Alfa Romeo or Porsche not used in today's filming. As scene only days back on "Entertainment Tonight" Cruise then arrived in his luxury bus that says "Wonderlodge" on both front doors with California license plates. His next scene was driving the Mustang while being pulled by a camera tow vehicle. Today, Mon Nov-13th, they're filming around Columbus Ave at West 90th Street.

Fans please note: Cruise's bodyguards are overstepping their authority by attempting to chase onlookers off public streets by saying "We have a permit to do so" Not true, the film permit gives no legal authority as per my discussion with supervisors in the NYPD. In fact, yesterday they even blocked people from even walking in front of his bus on the public sidewalk which is totally illegal, just say NO!!!"

9th November 2000 - The New York Post just ran an extensive article on the new Tom Cruise/Cameron Crowe flick which began production this week in New York. The script is using the standard no photocopy red paper trick along with serial numbers to track them down if they get lost or stolen, whilst stars are refusing to disclose details. The plot is expected to be a remake of Alejandro Amenabar's strange 1997 flick "Open Your Eyes" according to Variety. That film was about a womaniser whose disfigured in a car accident with his jealous ex-girlfriend, but his luck soon begins to change when his face is rebuilt and the woman he is after declares her love for him - then things get kooky. A love scene between Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz was shot on that first day in Central Park (on the grass - go Tommy boy). Thanks to 'Peter'.

20th September 2000 - Tom Cruise's "Vanilla Sky" film tentatively shoots in NYC Nov 6 to Dec 16th. Mariah Carey"s autobiographical film "All That Glitters" may film in NYC from about Sept-26th to October 6. They're up in Toronto now."

13th September 2000 - The Independent Marketing Edge, a newsletter for theatre owner/operators has various bits of casting news in their latest issue: Cameron Diaz is in negotiations to join Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz in writer/director Cameron Crowe's love story "Vanilla Sky"
