Approximately 17.4 million viewers tuned in for the eighth and final season premiere of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” across all platforms, setting a new series record.
The seventh season finale held the previous record with 12.1 million ‘live’ linear viewers, a number that jumped to 16.9 million when HBO Go, HBO Now and same-night reruns were added in. The seventh season premiere had 16.1 million total viewers across all platforms.
HBO penetrates about one-third of U.S. homes. The series has more than tripled its audience since its first season and, unlike many series, its seasonal average viewership has only increased each year.
