Warner Bros. Pictures has halted development of their Johnny Depp-led, Rob Marshall-directed remake of “The Thin Man” detective comedy film series reports Deadline.
No lead actress had been set and the film hasn’t received a green light as yet. A $100+ million budget was submitted which was an issue, added to that is the fact that there simply isn’t a rush to do this as Depp reportedly wants to take some time off between films.
Shooting was slated to begin in November, that date is now out the window and Marshall is likely to move onto “Into The Woods” at Disney Pictures instead.
The original 1934 “The Thin Man” starred William Powell and Myrna Loy, and was based on Dashiell Hammett’s novel. The story follows an alcoholic former P.I. named Nick Charles and his wealthy heiress wife Nora who investigate a murder that involves an eccentric inventor and his bizarre family.
These polished and sophisticated society types spend as much time engaging in witty banter with each other as they do investigating the crime. Five sequels were produced.
