Spike Lee’s upcoming “Oldboy” remake clocks in at a respectable 104 minutes, around 15 minutes shorter than original Korean film.
However, speaking with The Los Angeles Times, the film’s star Josh Brolin says that he much prefers “Lee’s earlier three-hour director’s cut that was both quieter and filled with more character-centric moments.”
All films have substantially longer rough cuts, but the phrasing in the article of a ‘director’s cut’ indicates there may be something more to this story. Brolin also adds that “I do have opinions, but it’s better to bite my tongue.”
Lee himself will no doubt answer the question brought up by this interview. A new, revised green-band trailer is also out which includes a few bits of new footage, and the removal of several bum shots.
