Luca Guadagnino (“I Am Love”) is set to direct a film adaptation of Robert Goolrick’s romantic thriller novel “A Reliable Wife” for Sony Pictures.
Set in Wisconsin in 1908, a rich widower posts an ad for a reliable wife. It is soon answered not by the matronly plain Jane he expected, but rather a gorgeous woman with a secret past who plans to slowly poison him and inherit his estate.
He, in turn, has plans for her that are also surprising. Andrew Kevin Walker (“Se7en”) penned the script.
Sam Taylor-Johnson was previously slated to direct before she signed on for the “Fifty Shades Of Grey” adaptation. Michael De Luca will produce and filming aims to begin next winter.
