Thursday night preview screenings for Gareth Edwards’ “Godzilla” reboot pulled in an estimated $9.3 million, $2.1 million of which was from IMAX screenings alone.
That beats the $8.7 million Thursday night haul of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” which went on to earn $91.6 million during its opening weekend frame a few weeks ago. It is behind the $10.2 million Thursday night gross of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” which then went onto a $95 million opening weekend.
Tracking figures indicate the film is expected to score between $70-80 million for the weekend. Critical reviews have been decent but mostly mixed, many of the complaints stemming around the lack of screen time for the title character itself.
